GDPR Privacy Notice May 2018

Castle Nurseries is a collection of five nurseries run by Newcastle City Council.   We are in the process of updating our records to comply with a new data protection standard and as such would like to provide you with the following information.

We will only use the personal information you share with us (this includes using your, your child’s and emergency contact person details) to provide a service to you and to help inform the local authority to improve services and outcomes for children and families.  We will use contact details including telephone numbers, email and addresses to communicate with you about your child as well as any other relevant nursery business.  We will keep written records relating to your child’s time in nursery including the recording of any significant life events that will help us to provide a service to you.  We will keep your information secure and will not share this information with anyone except if required to do so by law.

We will review your child’s global development on a termly basis, this data will be shared with you regularly.  Between the ages of 2 and 3 years, this information will be shared with your child’s Health Visitor as part of their two year old development check.

When your child leaves the nursery, we will send a summary of your child’s development onto their next childcare/educational provision, this helps the new setting to plan for your child’s needs and enables them to provide the right learning environment to help your child reach their full potential.

We and other departments of Newcastle City Council will use some data to help understand issues within childcare and education and to improve services, we will share data with other organisations including health professionals, community and voluntary services.  For example; we will gather data to understand children’s progress, funding streams, geographical childcare demand, uptake of statutory childcare offers etc.

Throughout your child’s nursery life photographs will be taken for a variety of purposes such as: to illustrate a child’s learning, support development statements, promote/publicise the nursery service.  You will be asked for your specific permission to do this when you complete your nursery registration form.
